Stacia Robertson's Comeback

Stacia Robertson's Comeback

Stacia Robertson enjoyed an eventful career while playing for the High Point University Women's Basketball Team and won numerous awards for her determination on the court. After the conclusion of her redshirt senior season, she earned a contract playing for the Bendingo Lady Braves in the South East Australian Basketball League. Robertson played with the Lady Braves for one season and then signed with Basket Gdynia after the season ended. She was cut from the Polish team during training camp and is now searching for another professional team to play with.

Collegiate Career

After completing her freshman year at the University of South Dakota, Robertson transferred to High Point University.  The move was based on her parents’ relocation to North Carolina for a new employment opportunity.

According to the High Point University Athletics website, over her career at High Point, Robertson averaged 13.7 points per game and she averaged 3.1 blocks per game during her senior season. She helped her team advance to the 2015 Big South Conference Championship. With a unique and unstoppable layup, she averaged 21.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game in the tournament and was awarded All-Tournament Team Honors. After a hard fought battle in the final tournament game, High Point lost to Liberty University by 10 points.

Many people expected to see great things come from Robertson after her illustrious career with High Point, as Robertson was named the Big South Player of the Year for the 2014-2015 season and earned All-American Honors.

Assistant High Point University Coach Laura Harper said, “In my opinion Stacia could’ve been a Big Ten (Conference) forward/center. We got really lucky to have that kind of caliber of a player here at High Point.”

Professional Career

After the 2014-2015 basketball season ended, Robertson received an offer from her agent to play overseas in Australia for the Bendigo Lady Braves in the South East Australian Basketball League. Robertson admitted that some of the basketball terminology that she had learned over the years changed while she was playing in Australia as well as the workout schedule. She found a good spot with the Lady Braves, as she posted an average of 14.1 points and 10.3 rebounds per game for the season, according to the FOX Sports Pulse website. “It was one of the best experiences that I’ve had in my life,” said Robertson.

After her season in Australia ended, Robertson signed to play with Basket Gdynia in the Polish Basketball League and traveled to Poland. Her time with Basket Gdynia ended shortly after her arrival, as she was cut a few days into training camp.

The Comeback

Robertson has continued to exercise and stay focused while she is searching for a new team. She is in top condition and is ready to compete and sign with a new team. Although Robertson maintains that it has been a lot easier having support from her parents, she stated, “Now I have to hold myself accountable.”

Former High Point teammate Kennedy Currie stated about Robertson's comeback, “Little things like this are the moments that we think we can’t get past. Those are the type of moments that are going to make all the difference in the world.”
